چکیده
Introduction: Surfactant is an important treatment modality in preterm babies with respiratory distress syndrome leading to decrease mortality, morbidity and cost of treatment. Experiences on surfactant therapy Nepal are scarce. This study was conceptualised find the use immediate outcome a tertiary care hospital Nepal. Methods: A cross-sectional done who received over period five years at neonatal / pediatric intensive unit Patan Hospital, Lalitpur, After approval from Institutional review committee, information gestational age, sex, birth weight, doses dexamethasone, time delivery, complications retrieved files. Comparison between early late rescue group done. Data analysed using SPSS 16. Results: Twelve (11.2%) needed repeat dose surfactant. Only 12 About 53 (49.5%) developed hypotension being most common seen 38 (35.5%) babies. Complications were 75% 46% respectively (p - 0.22). The mortality inversely proportional age 0.002) weight < 0.05). Mortality 16% both groups but deaths related all group. Conclusions: more similar groups, weight.

The effectiveness of surfactant replacement therapy for preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome.
Thirty preterm infants weighing > or = 800 g with clinical and radiological evidence of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) requiring mechanical ventilation with FiO2 of > or = 40% were given modified bovine surfactant (Survanta). They were compared with equal number of historical controls. Infants who received surfactant showed prompt and highly significant improvement in FiO2, mean airway pre...
متن کاملSurfactant Replacement Therapy Beyond Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Neonates.
BACKGROUND Surfactant replacement therapy is an established modality of treatment in preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrome. In addition, there are various neonatal respiratory disorders which are characterized by surfactant deficiency in which surfactant therapy can be a feasible and safe option. OBJECTIVE To collate the literature on the use of surfactant replacement therapy in...
متن کاملSurfactant replacement therapy in the neonate: beyond respiratory distress syndrome.
Surfactant-replacement therapy is a life-saving treatment for preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome, a disorder characterized by surfactant deficiency. Repletion with exogenous surfactant decreases mortality and thoracic air leaks and is a standard practice in the developed world. In addition to respiratory distress syndrome, other neonatal respiratory disorders are characterized b...
متن کاملSurfactant protein B gene polymorphism in preterm babies with respiratory distress syndrome.
The etiology of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is multifactorial and multigenic. Studies have suggested that polymorphisms and mutations in the surfactant protein B (SP-B) gene are associated with the pathogenesis of RDS. The objectives of this study were to determine and compare the frequencies of SP-B gene polymorphisms in preterm babies with and without RDS. We studied 151 neonates: 79 ...
متن کاملCLINICAL REPORT Surfactant-Replacement Therapy for Respiratory Distress in the Preterm and Term Neonate
Respiratory failure secondary to surfactant deficiency is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Surfactant therapy substantially reduces mortality and respiratory morbidity for this population. Secondary surfactant deficiency also contributes to acute respiratory morbidity in late-preterm and term neonates with meconium aspiration syndrome, pneumonia/sepsis, and perhaps p...
